Patient Chief Concern
Deep bite, Misaligned teeth
What learning would you share with other Invisalign providers?
In patients with a severe deep bite, anterior intrusion can be set close to an edge-to-edge bite, and strong posterior occlusal contacts can be achieved through overcorrection to prevent relapse of deep bite. To maintain proper torque during anterior intrusion, power ridges can be applied.
What contributed most to this treatment being successful?
The patient presented with a deep bite and crowding in both the maxillary and mandibular arches, along with multiple rotated teeth. To resolve the deep bite, precision bite ramps were designed on maxillary four anterior teeth. To prevent relapse of the deep bite, which was the chief complaint, anterior intrusion and posterior extrusion overcorrection was used, resulting in edge-to-edge incisal relationship. At the same time, the posterior teeth were guided into strong occlusal contacts to prevent relapse of the deep bite. To maintain proper torque during anterior intrusion, power ridges (buccal torque) were applied to the anterior teeth. Since the patient originally had a Class I molar relationship, the treatment aimed to maintain this Class I relationship as much as possible while simultaneously resolving the crowding and correcting the deep bite. To address the crowding, arch expansion was performed in both arches, and IPR was done on some areas to facilitate de-rotation.
