What learning would you share with other Invisalign providers?
The Invisalign system is a highly effective tool for pre-surgical orthodontic treatment and space creation. When performing Invisalign treatment in combination with surgery, the amount of jaw movement and final occlusal settlement can be predetermined. If the pre-planned setups are accurately achieved, successful orthodontic results can be obtained. Effective communication with the oral surgeon through the ClinCheck plan allows for efficient treatment.
What contributed most to this treatment being successful?
The patient had congenital missing #32 and #42, so it was necessary to regain space in those areas for future implant placement. Additionally, the patient had Skeletal Class III malocclusion, and a severe open bite. It was decided to proceed with orthognathic surgery in combination with orthodontic treatment. Invisalign was chosen as the treatment method, as it allows for accurate prediction of post-surgical occlusion, better symmetry of the arch, and effective space regaining. Pre-surgical decompensation was performed, and a harmonious arch form and proper tooth alignment were achieved. Space was regained in the areas of the congenitally missing #32 and #42 in preparation for future implant placement. With increasing the intercanine width, arch symmetry was also established. The post-surgical occlusion was planned in advance and thoroughly communicated with the surgeon prior to surgery. The progress images are intra-oral photos showing that the patient's post-surgical occlusion has stabilized well. After the surgery, vertical elastics were used to settle the occlusion.
